Former USC point guard Daniel Hackett was named the Italian League Serie A Championships MVP as he led his Montepaschi Siena team to the title on June 19.
Hackett led Siena to its eighth title in the last 10 years to gain the coveted finals award, his second national award this season as he was also the BEKO Final Eight MVP back in February. Hackett averaged 14.2 points per game in the postseason, after scoring 8.2 points per game in the regular season. He also averaged 4.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds during the postseason for Siena. In the 4-1 series defeat of Acea Virtus RM, Hackett averaged 14.0 points on 61.1 percent shooting and averaged 5.2 assists per game. Siena finished fifth in the regular season and in the two seven-game series to reach the finals, Hackett scored 25 and 23 points in the deciding game-sevens to help Siena advance.
Hackett was the starting point guard for USC from 2007-09 and averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He was named to second team All-Pac-10 in 2009 and his 363 career assists rank fifth all-time by a Trojan.
