All-Big West performer Eric Wise will transfer to USC to play his final year of collegiate basketball for the Trojans, it was announced today (May 27) by USC head coach Kevin O'Neill. Wise, who played three seasons at UC Irvine, will have to sit out the 2011-12 season, but will be eligible to compete during the 2012-13 season.

"We are very excited to have a proven veteran player like Eric join our program," said O'Neill. "His sit-out year will give him an opportunity to acclimate to our system and prepare him to have a good senior season. He is a good student who did well at UC Irvine and will be in position to graduate from USC."

Wise averaged 16.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 20 games (18 starts) for UC Irvine last season. He was second on the team in scoring and first in rebounds per game. His 8.1 rebound average was the highest by a UC Irvine player since the 1992-93 season.

The 6-6, 240-pound wing was named to the 2010-11 Big West honorable mention after being named to the All-Big West Second Team in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Wise had eight 20-point games in 2011 and has 26 20-point games in his career. Wise also posted nine double-doubles in 2011 and has 15 in his career.

As a sophomore, Wise became the first Anteater in 37 years and only the second in school history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assist.

Wise ranks 11th on UC Irvine's all-time list in points (1,280) and 15th in rebounds (533) and is the 15th player in school history to register 1,000 or more points and 500 or more career rebounds.

Wise played prep basketball at Riverside's King High where he averaged 20.4 points and 9.3 rebounds as a senior in 2008 and was named Riverside County Player of the Year by the Riverside Press Enterprise and was named the CIF Southern Section Division IA Player of the Year. King HS finished 32-3 and won the CIF championship that season.

Wise has strong family ties to rebounding prowess as his father Francois Wise is CS Long Beach's career rebound leader, grabbing 896 from 1976-80. His uncle Willie Wise played in the American Basketball Association and in the NBA in the 1970s, posting a career average of 19.1 points and 8.1 rebounds. Also, his cousin is Jaha Wilson who played for USC in the mid-`90s and is 10th on the Trojans' all-time rebound list.
