    Stewart and Hall Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week

    LOS ANGELES – Men’s basketball freshman Elijah Stewart and women’s track freshman Dior Hall were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 9-15, on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

    Elijah Stewart shined bright in the starting role as the Trojans claimed their second Pac-12 win of the season over Oregon State, 68-55. The freshman guard drained 19 points, including 5-12 from downtown. Stewart also provided a stalwart effort on defense with three steal and three blocks.

    Stewart’s five 3-pointers is a new career-high for the freshman who also distributed the ball well for four assists. The Trojans next travel to Arizona to face the Wildcats on Thursday, Feb. 19. at 6:00p.m. PT.

    Also nominated for men’s student-athlete of the week honors: Kyle Twomey (baseball), Eric Johnson (tennis) and Alex Slaught (volleyball).

    Dior Hall put on a record-breaking performance in the 60 HH at the Don Kirby Elite Invite. In the preliminary round, Hall had the fastest qualifying time of 8.12 which was a new personal record, while also giving her a spot in the finals. That was just the beginning to her career-best day.

    In the 60 HH finals, the freshman clocked in at 8.07, achieving an American Junior record. Hall has now moved into first place on the NCAA descending order list, while also improving her USC freshman record. The Trojans are next scheduled to compete at the MPSF Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 27. In Seattle, Wash.

    Also nominated for women’s student-athlete of the week honors: Madison Westby (tennis), Hannah Weiss (swimming) and Monica Vavic (water polo).

    The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel. Student assistant voters include Rachel Dobrin, Robby Kolanz, Dru Chavez, Colette Garcia, Andrew McKagan, Max Schwartz and intern Katie Ryan.
