LOS ANGELES (AP) -Davon Jefferson scored 23 points and fellow freshman O.J. Mayo took charge down the stretch to lead No. 22 USC to a 66-55 victory over Oklahoma on Thursday night.

The game was the first basketball meeting between the schools in 24 years.

Breaking open a tight game, Mayo scored 11 consecutive points beginning with 6:48 remaining as the Trojans (6-1) took a 60-48 lead with 3:35 to play.

He kept the USC fans on their feet cheering as he scored on a couple of drives when he switched hands while in the air and laid the ball in, knocked down a 3-pointer and hit a couple of medium-range jumpers.

He finished with 18 points, 15 in the second half.

Jefferson had nine rebounds while Dwight Lewis added 11 points for the Trojans.

Keith Clark and Austin Johnson led Oklahoma (5-2) with 13 points apiece, but they were the only Sooners in double figures. Taylor Griffin had nine rebounds for Oklahoma.

The last time the teams met, the Sooners won 92-91 on Nov. 25, 1983. USC's victory in the long-delayed rematch evened the all-time series at five wins apiece.

USC limited the Sooners to 36 percent shooting from the field, while the Trojans shot 44 percent.

The Trojans lost their only other home game this season, a 96-81 defeat to Mercer in the season opener.

USC went 18-of-25 from the free throw line, while the Sooners shot just 11 and made five.

The Trojans led 29-18 at the end of a ragged first half. USC made only 10 of 30 shots from the field, but the Sooners were worse, shooting 7-of-28.

Jefferson had 12 points and seven rebounds in the first half, going 4-of-8 from the field and making all four of his free throws.

He hit a jumper to start an 11-1 run as the Trojans pulled out to a 25-14 lead 2:54 before halftime and led the rest of the way.

Mayo made just one of eight shots and scored three points in the first 20 minutes.

USC was 4-of-16 from the field, with one of the baskets coming on a goaltending call, before finding the range in the final six minutes of the first half.

The Sooners couldn't even get their free throws to fall, going 2-for-7 from the line to USC's 8-of-10 in the opening half.

Oklahoma was coming off a layoff following its rout of Morehead State on Nov. 21. The Sooners' other this season was 63-53 to No. 3 Memphis on Nov. 15.
