    Freshman DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points and junior Taj Gibson added 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead USC to an 85-64 exhibition win over Azusa Pacific at the Galen Center tonight (Nov. 3).

    USC took a 4-3 lead on layup by sophomore Donte Smith 47 seconds into the game and never looked back. Smith only scored two more points, but added 12 assists and five rebounds to help key the Trojan attack. USC built the lead to as many as 22 points in the first half and took a 49-33 lead into the break behind 10 points apiece from DeRozan, Gibson and senior Keith Wilkinson.

    USC had five players reach double figures in the game including redshirt sophomore forward Kasey Cunningham who scored 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting, while grabbing four rebounds and making a team-leading three steals in 22 minutes.

    The Trojans hit 50.8 percent of their shots in the game (31-for-61), but struggled from the free throw line, where they could muster only a 52.9 percentage (18-for-34). USC outrebounded APU 53-36 and held the Cougars to 31.9 percent shooting from the field.

    Leading the way for NAIA power Azusa Pacific was guard Dominique Johnson who scored 20 points while making 4 of 9 three-point attempts.

    USC will open the regular season on Nov. 15 vs. UC Irvine in the Galen Center at 12:30 p.m.
