BREAKDOWN: Tyler Sugiyama, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound redshirt sophomore guard was a solid floor leader in high school and displayed a high basketball IQ. He is a very good ball handler and has excellent court awareness and gives the Trojans depth at the guard position.

2010-11: Played in three games for a total of five minutes. Appeared in his first game for the Trojans on Nov. 21 vs. New Mexico State and missed his only field goal attempt. Played two minutes vs. CS Fullerton on Nov. 24. Also played two minutes vs. Stanford on Jan. 20 and missed a free throw attempt.

2009-10: Did not play in a regular season game for USC as a freshman and used it as a redshirt season. Played four minutes and had two rebounds for the Cardinal team in the annual Cardinal & Gold exhibition game on Oct. 25.

HIGH SCHOOL: Sugiyama played high school basketball at New Trier in Winnetka, Ill. Was ranked among the top 250 players in the nation by Hoopscoop and ranked a top 10 point guard in Illinois by Scout.com. Was named to the 2009 class honorable mention team by the magazine Nothing But Net. Was named a Reebok All-American and was selected to the Cream of the Crop Top 40 at the Pangos All-America Camp in Los Angeles.

PERSONAL: Sugiyama was born on December 11, 1990 in Winnetka, Ill. Was selected to serve as a Congressional Page by Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the 2008 summer and worked in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
