    THIS SEASON: Roydell Smiley, 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, is in his second year with the Trojans as a senior guard in 2004. A hard-nosed player, he brings an excellent perimeter game to the Trojans as well as the ability to handle the ball. He broke his lower left leg in the season finale loss against Oregon, but began running on it in June and is expected to be ready for the start of practice in October.

    2002-2003: Started seven of 28 games as a 2003 junior college transfer, finishing as USC's fourth-leading scorer (8.6) despite battling nagging knee injuries for most of the season ... Made the second-most three-pointers on the team (40) and shot a team-high 84.4% from the free throw line (38-of-45) ... Made a team-best 26 consecutive free throws during an 11-game span ... Scored in double figures 13 times ... Was third on the team in steals with 30, including a career-high five at Rhode Island ... Scored a career-high 20 points in the Pac-10 Tournament opener against Stanford, making 6-of-10 shots, 3-of-5 threes and 5-of-5 free throws, including one four-point play (He did all that in 20 minutes) ... Had 18 points against La Salle, making 4-of-5 threes ... Scored 16 points twice, at UC Santa Barbara and against Oregon State ... Missed the home California and Stanford games while resting a sprained knee.

    SOUTHEASTERN IOWA COLLEGE: Earned NJCAA Region XI first team honors as a 2002 sophomore and a 2001 freshman at Southeastern Iowa College in West Burlington, Ia. ... As a sophomore, Smiley averaged 14.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals ... As a freshman, averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and made 40.5% of his three-pointers ... Prior to his sophomore season, Smiley was named a Street & Smith's Preseason All-America fourth teamer, the No. 2 small forward in the country by The Sporting News and the No. 5 wing guard by Lindy's.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Smiley prepped at Garfield High in Seattle, Wash., where he averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds as a senior in 2000, leading his team to the Washington state championship.
