THE BREAKDOWN: Davon (DAY-von) Jefferson, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound freshman forward, is a versatile offensive player who is just as comfortable from the perimeter as he is posting up down low. He is expected to make an impact right away for the Trojans and will be able to create matchup problems for the opposition.
HIGH SCHOOL: Jefferson was widely regarded as a top 10 recruit his senior season and as a top five recruit among fifth-year prep school basketball players in 2006. He sat out the second half of the season last year and focused on his academics. Rivals.com listed Jefferson as a five-star recruit, the 15th rated prospect of the entire 2006 class and as the No. 2 player out of California. Among those Jefferson was ranked ahead of in the Class of 2006 were Darrell Arthur of Kansas (16), Mike Connelly of the Memphis Grizzlies (18), teammate Taj Gibson (32), Deon Thompson of North Carolina (72) and Ryan Anderson of California (98). He attended Lynwood (CA) high school in 2005 and averaged 26.0 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He then went to The Patterson School in Patterson, N.C. in 2006, where he averaged 20.0 points and 12 rebounds in half of a season.
