THIS SEASON: Robert Hutchinson, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds and one of two seniors on USC's team in 2003, returns to the Trojans as a key contributor in the backcourt and a challenger for the starting job at point guard. A steadying influence on the court, Hutchinson is a reliable asset who has proven he can come through in the clutch.

2001-2002: Hutchinson, USC's team captain as a 2002 junior guard, played in 30 of 32 games, starting once. On the season, he had 48 assists and only 21 turnovers, averaging 2.0 points in 11.7 minutes per game ... USC's games at San Diego and Loyola Marymount proved to be Hutchinson's most productive of the season. At LMU, he had a career-high 10 points in a career-high 26 minutes. He played 24 minutes at San Diego, 19 of which came in the second half and overtime. He finished with six points. He followed it up with a then-career-high five assists in 24 minutes at Washington ... Had a career-high seven assists at Arizona ... Made his third career start against Rhode Island, grabbing a career-high five rebounds ... Played 17 minutes at Long Beach State, scoring three points ... Played 11 minutes against Miami (Ohio), scoring four points.
2000-2001: Hutchinson played in every game as a reserve point guard as a 2001 sophomore, averaging 1.2 points in 7.4 minutes per game ... Became a hero, however, with his play against Boston College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Filling in for Brandon Granville, who had fouled out, Hutchinson stepped in admirably, making 5-of-6 free throws in the final 77 seconds to go with two rebounds and a key assist, helping seal the win. He then played 12 minutes vs. Kentucky in the Sweet 16 and six minutes vs. Duke ... Started his first game at Northwestern, but went scoreless in 14 minutes ... Then started against Washington and scored two points in 19 minutes ... Had six points vs. then-No. 8 Arizona at home ... Scored three points (on a three-pointer) in 14 minutes in his first game as a USC guard against Bradley ... Had a very solid outing against San Diego, scoring eight points in 19 minutes, going 2-for-2 on three-pointers as well as from the foul line. He also had three assists without a turnover.
OKALOOSA-WALTON COLLEGE: Hutchinson played at Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville, Fla., as a redshirt freshman in 2000 ... Was a 2000 All-Panhandle Conference and Region 8 state tournament first team selection ... Led his team to a 26-5 overall mark, a first-place finish in the Panhandle Conference (9-3) and an appearance in the Region 8 state finals ... On a team with six players scoring in double figures, Hutchinson averaged 13.5 points, 7.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game ... Shot 44.0% from three-point range and 75.0% from the foul line ... His three-point percentage was a school record, as were his season totals in three-pointers (78), assists (208) and steals (48).
Hutchinson did not play basketball in 1999.
HIGH SCHOOL: Hutchinson prepped at Westover High in Albany, Ga., where he led his team to the state championship as a 1998 senior ... That year, he earned All-State Division III first team honors and was a USA Today All-USA honorable mention pick.
SIDELIGHTS: Hutchinson was born on Jan. 10, 1980 ... He is a social science/history major.
