THE BREAKDOWN: Kyle Austin, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore forward, is an active rebounder and solid defender. Has the ability to step out and hit the mid-range jumper and is expected to have a much bigger role this season.
2006-07: Went into the season as a possible redshirt, but impressed in practice and played in the Trojans' second game of the season on Nov. 18 vs. Saint Mary's...played nine minutes, scored a point, grabbed one rebound and had an assist in his Trojan debut. Had a season-best five rebounds and scored four points in the win vs. The Citadel on Nov. 21. Scored a season-high five points and had four rebounds on Nov. 28 vs. Mississippi Valley State. Played a key role in USC's 74-65 comeback win at the Wooden Classic on Dec. 9, coming off the bench to play a season-high 19 minutes, scoring two points, grabbing three rebounds and slowing down GW's point guard. Played seven minutes in USC's Pac-10 Championship loss to Oregon, scoring four points and grabbing one rebound. Has had at least one rebound in all but five games he played in, which totaled just eight minutes of action.
HIGH SCHOOL: Austin played at Pasaden High in Pasadena, Calif. where he was selected to The Press-Enterprise 2006 Division I-A first team and was a Long Beach Press Telegram 2006 Best in the West third-team selection. Pasadena High went 25-4 in his senior season, losing in the CIF Southern Section to Perris (CA) High, 64-62. He was the Star News Player of the Year for the 2004-05 season, when he averaged 21 points and seven rebounds per game. He also shared Pacific League MVP honors as a junior with his teammate Artis Gant.
PERSONAL: Austin was born on Oct. 18, 1988. He is an undeclared major at USC.
