    LOS ANGELES -- Alex Sherrod went 2-for-6 with six RBI while Beau Brett went 6-for-12 as the Cardinal squad defeated the Gold squad in the best-of-three 2009 Cardinal/Gold Fall World Series. The three-game series culminates the fall practice schedule for the USC baseball team in preparation for the 2010 season.

    The Cardinal team shut out the Gold team, 14-0, in game one Thursday as Ben Mount, Nick Berhel and Brett Williams threw three innings each for the combined shutout. Mount struck out five with Williams recording four strikeouts and no walks. Berhel allowed one single and faced the minimum. The fourth inning was the difference as Cardinal pushed eight runs across.

    In game two, the Gold came back and scored three times in the bottom of the eighth for the eventual 6-4 win on Adam Landecker's bases-loaded triple. Jordan Hershiser started the game with four innings for Cardinal while Andrew Triggs threw four innings for Gold and allowed three runs on seven hits with on walks and six strikeouts. Brad Douthit earned the win with four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits with Austin Cheek picking up the save.

    Sherrod had four RBI in Saturday's series finale as Team Cardinal won, 14-8. Chris Mezger started the game for Cardinal and threw four scoreless innings, allowing four hits. Senior transfer Shuhei Fujiya then threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Kevin Roundtree had three RBI in the loss for the Gold.

     

     

    Mike O'Neill was 4-for-10 in the series while Greg Zebrack was 4-for-8 for the Cardinal while Mac Sullivan and Matthew Foat went 4-for-11 for the Gold. Mike Greco finished with a 4-for-9 series while Roundtree went 3-for-7.

    USC opens the 2010 season on Feb. 19 at Cal Poly. Every game on the Trojans' schedule will be broadcast live with a video webcast for all home games exclusively on usctrojans.com.
