LOS ANGELES - Rising sophomore AJ Ramirez was selected and competed in the Alaska Communications/State Farm Alaska Baseball League All-Star Game on Sunday, July 21 at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ramirez (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian HS) has spent the summer competing for the Peninsula Oilers of the prestigious Alaska Baseball League, where he is batting .284, the third-best average on the team. He has driven in 10 runs and tallied five doubles, one triple and one home run for the 16-13 Oilers.

In the All-Star Game Ramirez suited up for the South team and was the designated hitter for the first five innings of the game, before moving to left field for the final four frames. The game was a pitching duel, as it ended in a 2-2 tie through nine innings, with both teams combining for just six hits. Ramirez was one of five Oiler field players to make the All-Star Team, while five pitchers from the Oilers also garnered honors.

As a true freshman for the Trojans in 2013, Ramirez batted .250 in 34 games played. He drove in eight runs, hit one home run and collected three doubles. He also started 29 games, mostly at first base.
