July 21, 2014
LOS ANGELES - Rising junior right-hander Kyle Davis was named to the Cape Cod League East Division All-Star team by a vote of the league's managers, it was recently announced.
Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS), who is suiting up this summer for the Chatham Anglers, is second in the prestigious Cape League with 24 strikeouts in 20 complete innings of work. He has appeared in 14 games, all out of the bullpen and boasts an impressive 1.35 ERA. The rising junior has tallied four saves and is 2-0 on the season. Overall the Anglers are 14-18 on the season.
Davis' summer follows his breakout sophomore season, where he earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors. The reliever led the Trojan pitching staff with a 1.12 ERA through 56.1 innings in 26 games. He tallied 57 strikeouts and held opponents to a .195 batting average. He also tallied a team-high nine saves and a 3-4 overall record. In only his second career start and first of the season, Davis threw a complete-game versus the then-No. 1 Oregon State Beavers, striking out 14 batters in nine innings of work in what was a must-win game for the Trojans looking for their first postseason berth since 2005. The Trojans finished just shy of that goal, being named one of the final teams to not make the field of 64, as they finished with a record of 29-24 and a fifth-place 16-14 record in the Pac-12.
The midsummer classic is being held at Doran Park, home of the Bourne Braves, on Sunday, July 27 and pits the western Cape teams vs. the eastern division Cape teams.
