July 20, 2013
LOS ANGELES - Rising junior Dante Flores was named the starting second baseman for the Eastern Division All-Star Team of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) on Saturday morning.
Flores (Norwalk, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) leads the Chatham Anglers of the CCBL with a batting average of .340, which also ranks ninth in the league. The left-handed hitter's 11 doubles currently paces the league. Flores has driven in 14 runs on the season, good for second-best on the team and has also hit one home run.
Flores has been a big part of the Anglers' success this season, as they lead the Eastern Division with a record of 21-9-1. Through the last 10 games the team is 7-3. He is one of four Anglers to earn All-Star nods and only one of two to be named starters. This is his second season playing summer ball in the Cape for the Anglers.
On July 1 Flores earned Coca-Cola CCBL Player of the Week honors after he went 8-for-17 with five RBI over a four-game span.
In his sophomore season for the Trojans, Flores was hampered by a wrist injury and only played in 25 games. He tallied 11 RBI, one home run, one triple and four doubles as he batted .256 while mostly playing first base.
The 2013 Friendly's Cape League All-Star game will be played Saturday, July 27 at Red Wilson Field (home of the Y-D Red Sox). The first pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports. Tickets are available online at capecodbaseball.org and at all 10 Cape League fields.
