LOS ANGELES - Three USC pitchers were selected on day two of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft today. Senior pitcher Andrew Triggs was selected in the 19th round (583rd overall) by the Kansas City Royals. Senior Martin Viramontes was picked in the 28th round (875th overall) by the Milwuakee Brewers, while the Los Angeles Dodgers took senior Jordan Hershiser in the 34th round (1046th overall).

Triggs, a 2011 selection of the San Francisco Giants and a 2010 selection of the Cleveland Indians, returned to USC for his senior season posting a 5-6 record with a 3.49 ERA as the ace of the Trojans staff. He struck out 85 batters while walking only 20 in 105 2/3 innings of work this season.

Virimontes was drafted for the second time after being selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. A senior transfer from Loyola Marymount, he went 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA while recording five saves in his only season with the Trojans. Virimontes totaled 29 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings in 2012.

Hershiser only appeared in 21 games as a Trojan due to injury but showed great potential with his 6'8" 245 lbs. frame. In 2012, he posted a 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts.
