    Baseball Will Go to Clemson

    LOS ANGELES - The No. 6 USC baseball team has been sent to the East Regional, hosted by Clemson, the NCAA announced today. The Trojans will be trying to qualify for their second College World Series berth in four years at the regional, which begins Thursday and runs through Sunday (May 21-24).

    USC (40-15 overall) was named the No. 1 seed and will meet sixth-seeded Fordham in the first round on Thursday at 8 a.m. (PDT). The other particpants are host Clemson, Virginia Commonwealth, South Alabama and The Citadel. "This is the most exciting time of the year," USC Coach Mike Gillespie said. "The challenge that lies ahead of us in Clemson is a great one. It's a strong, but fair, field. We're looking forward to it."

    The winner of the double-elimination regional will advance to Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series on May 29- June 6.

    USC has won an unprecedented 11 College World Series titles.

    All games will be broadcast on KPLS-AM (830).
