    WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC junior first baseman Ricky Oropesa has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

    Oropesa went 9-for-17 over four games last week, including 6-for-13 against No. 24 UCLA in the opening week of Conference play for both teams. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native was 3-for-5 with a home run in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Bruins, tying his personal best with five RBI. He finished the series with two home runs and seven RBI. Oropesa is hitting .500 (13-for-26) in his last seven games with four three-hit games during that time. With 35 career home runs, Oropesa is now in sole possession of sixth place on USC's all-time list.

    This marks the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Oropesa and USC's 54th all-time Player of the Week selection.
