LOS ANGELES - Senior catcher Garrett Stubbs was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, it was announced today by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Seventy-five catchers were nominated by their coaches for The Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top Division I catcher. The honor for Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) marks the second-straight season he has been named to the watch list.

Stubbs, a 2014 All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection is a rock for the Trojans behind the plate, from his defensive ability, to his leadership on and off the field. Stubbs also has the unique ability to call a game, and head coach Dan Hubbs feels he is one of the best catchers in the nation.

The senior has caught nine batters attempting to steal (9-of-17) and has picked off two runners so far on the young season, appearing in all 17 games for the Trojans, catching 13 of those.

He has also excelled at the plate, leading the team with a batting average of .446 and an on-base percentage of .520. He has driven in nine runs while scoring 15 more as the Trojans' No. 2 hitter.

Stubbs and the Trojans will open Pac-12 play on Friday as they host Washington State at 6 p.m. PT at Dedeaux Field.
