    Stubbs and Olmos Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week

    LOS ANGELES -USC baseball senior Garrett Stubbs and women's tennis junior Giuliana Olmos were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 16-22, on Monday, Feb. 23.

    USC CREDIT UNION MEN'S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
    Garrett Stubbs provided a clutch performance at the plate to ignite the Trojans' hot 8-0 start to their 2015 campaign. On Tuesday against No. 25 Cal State Fullerton, Stubbs came through with a two-out, bases clearing double to give the Trojans the lead as they wound up winning 6-4. Stubbs was also a key component to the Trojans comeback win over Oakland on Friday. With the Trojans down 6-2, the senior had a key RBI single to chip away at the Trojans deficit, as USC would ultimately win 8-6.

    Overall on the week, Stubbs went 11-22 from the plate with five runs scored and five runs batted in. At 8-0, USC baseball is off to its best start in school history since 1988. The Trojans look to remain undefeated when they head up to Fresno, Calif. to face Fresno State on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6:35 p.m.

    Also nominated for men's student-athlete of the week honors: Cary Wright (swimming).

    USC CREDIT UNION WOMEN'S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
    Giuliana Olmos pulled off the upset over the nation's top-ranked singles player to clinch the victory for No. 11 USC over No. 5 California. With the Trojans gridlocked at 3-3 against the Bears, Olmos surrendered the first set 2-6 to Cal's #1 Meagan Manasse. After losing the first set, Olmos didn't look back as she provided a huge comeback by winning the last two sets 6-2, 6-3, ultimately giving the Trojans a 4-3 win.

    Olmos brought all of her momentum into the next day in a dual-match against Saint Mary's. At singles, #22 Olmos took care of business with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over #48 Danielle Flores to give the Trojans a 5-2 win. The junior is now 24-7 at singles on the season and is currently on a four-match winning streak. The Women of Troy are next scheduled to travel to face off against crosstown rival UCLA in Westwood, Calif. on Wednesday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m.

    Also nominated for women's student-athlete of the week honors: Michaela Michael (lacrosse).

    The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel. Student assistant voters include Rachel Dobrin, Robby Kolanz, Dru Chavez, Colette Garcia, Melissa Martino, Andrew McKagan, Max Schwartz and intern Katie Ryan.
