LOS ANGELES - Behind a dominating complete game, 14 strikeout performance from sophomore righty Kyle Davis, the Trojans defeated the No. 1-ranked Oregon State Beavers 3-1 to take the series on Sunday afternoon at Dedeaux Field.

As the final home game of the season, the Trojans honored six seniors- JR Aguirre (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), James Guillen (Covina, Calif./Damien HS), Jake Hernandez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos HS), Sean Silva (Fresno, Calif./Fresno City College), Kevin Swick (La Canada, Calif./Loyola HS) and Bob Wheatley (Villa Park, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS).

However, the day belonged to sophomore Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS). The Trojans' usual closer, Davis was making his first start of the season and second of his career on Sunday, against the No. 1-ranked Beavers. He came through with an impressive showing, throwing a complete-game five-hitter, while allowing just one unearned run. He walked four and struck out a career-high 14 batters. Those 14 strikeouts were the most K's from a Trojan pitcher all season.

The Trojans got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Swick led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error by the first baseman on a pickoff attempt from Beaver starter Andrew Moore. A groundout from Omar Cotto Lozada (San Juan, Puerto Rico/The Bonneville School) advanced Swick to third, allowing Hernandez to come through with the sac fly RBI.

The Beavers tied things up in the top of the third inning, as the runner came around to score from first on a double by Michael Howard because of a throwing error by the Trojan right fielder.

The Trojans answered with another run in the bottom of the fifth, as Reggie Southall (Gardena, Calif./Serra HS) singled up the middle to score Garrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS), who led off the inning with a single and was sac bunted to second.

The Trojans held the 2-1 advantage until the bottom of the seventh inning when they added one more run, as Swick singled with one out and came around to score on a double to left field by Jeremy Martinez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS).

The one insurance run was all the Trojans needed, as Davis shut the Beavers offense down the rest of the way to ensure the Trojans 3-1 victory.

The win puts the team at 29-24 overall, with a 16-14 mark in the Pac-12, good for fifth place. The Trojans will have to wait until tomorrow (Monday) at 9 a.m. to see if they have made the postseason field for the first time since 2005.
