PULLMAN, Wash. - Derek Jones broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the sixth, followed by Garry Kuykendall's solo home run in the seventh Sunday, as the No. 24 Washington State Cougars completed their first-ever three-game series sweep against the USC Trojans with the 8-2 win. The Cougars added five insurance runs in the eighth.
Adam Conley went eight innings for the Cougars (31-18, 14-10), scattering seven hits for two runs with no walks and eight strikeouts. Matt Fanelli went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI while Jones hit his third home run of the weekend.

Fanelli's RBI double gave WSU the 1-0 lead in the first, but the Trojans answered with a run of their own in the third.
In the sixth, Jones belted his 11th of the season on the solo shot to right center. Kuykendall hit his first of the season with a two-out solo homer to right off reliever Chad Smith in the seventh. The Cougars had four hits in the eighth inning as Paris Shewey threw a perfect ninth to secure the sweep.
