LOS ANGELES - Junior Jon Brewster's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth provided the go-ahead runs Tuesday as the USC Trojans defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions, 5-3, in non-conference action at Dedeaux Field.

Down 3-2, Jeff Clement and Joey Metropoulos walked with two outs in the eighth. Travis McAndrews tied the game for the Trojans with a single to center off Jeff Stevens (2-3) before Brewster hit the game-winning two-run single.

USC improved to 26-23 overall while Loyola Marymount fell to 23-20 on the season.

Josh Rummonds improved to 5-3 on the season while Bret Butler pitched the ninth inning to pick up his seventh save of the season.

In a wild contest for both teams, the Trojans tied the game twice on a solo home runs by Michael Moon in the fourth and Ryan Broderick in the sixth. With Billy Lockin at third in the top of the seventh, Jordan Olson walked Joe Frazee. Lockin was caught in a rundown, but the throw by third baseman Darin Vieira in the rundown got past Olson. Metropoulos backed up the play and threw out Lockin at the plate in a key out for the Trojans.

The Lions took a 3-2 lead in the eighth after an RBI single by Jonathan Oller.

USC will play their final home games of the 2003 schedule with a Pac-10 Conference series with Washington State on Friday (May 16) at 6 p.m. Saturday's game will start at 1 p.m. with Sunday's game starting at noon. All three games will be broadcast on usctrojans.com while Friday's game will be tape delayed on FOX Sports Net.
