EUGENE, Ore. - Zack Thornton threw seven scoreless innings in relief Sunday as the No. 18 Oregon Ducks beat the USC Trojans, 8-4, for the second time this weekend to win the Pac-10 Conference series in front of 2,868 at PK Park. Thornton allowed just five hits and struck out seven with no walks. J.J. Altobelli went 2-for-3 with a grand slam that put the Ducks ahead for good in the third.

Oregon improved to 27-13 overall and 8-7 in conference while USC fell to 17-22 overall and 3-12 in conference.

Eddie Rodriguez went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBI for the Ducks while Steven Packard was 3-for-4 with a double. Keith Castillo, Kevin Roundtree and Joe De Pinto had two hits each for the Trojans.

KC Serna and Marcus Piazzisi led off the bottom half of the first with back-to-back singles. Danny Pulfer sacrificed the runners over before Rodriguez hit a high chopper up the middle. USC second baseman Matt Foat and shortstop De Pinto collided on the play as Serna scored. With Foat, who came out of the game in the second, on the ground, Piazzisi scored the second run on the play for a 2-0 lead.

USC got to Oregon starter Alex Keudell in the third, loading the bases with no outs. Keudell uncorked a wild pitch to score the Trojans' first run, before Thornton came in and gave up a two-run single to Castillo. Roundtree made it 4-2 with an RBI groundout to second.

The Ducks answered in the bottom half of the third with singles from Rodriguez and Packard. Jack Marder then laid down a bunt, but USC starter Kevin Couture's throw to third was too late as the bases were loaded and no outs. Couture struck out Ryan Hambright before Altobelli put the Ducks ahead on the grand slam with his first homer of the season. Serna made it a 7-4 Oregon lead in the fifth with a two-out RBI double down the third base line.

Rodriguez hit a solo homer to center off Ryan Cabral in the sixth to extend Oregon's advantage, 8-4.

USC travels to UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday (April 27) for a 2 p.m. game that will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
