Oregon State Shuts Down USC To Earn Pac-10 Series Win|

LOS ANGELES - Kevin Gunderson threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn his second save in as many days as the Oregon State Beavers defeated the USC Trojans, 8-4, in Pac-10 Conference action at Dedeaux Field. The Beavers used a 16-hit attack to take two of three games this weekend.
Oregon State improves to 26-12 overall while USC is now 20-21 on the season. Both teams are 6-6, tied for third place along with UCLA in the Pac-10.
Jonah Nickerson (4-0) earned the win for the Beavers, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing one run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Cole Ganser (1-1) took the loss for the Trojans, allowing the game-winning run in the fifth on a wild pitch that scored designated Mike Hass from third.
In the fourth, OSU took a 4-3 lead on RBI singles by Paul Richie and Chris Campos. Both teams opened the game with 14 hits, all singles, before Cyle Hankerd's double in the bottom of the fourth. Hankerd scored on an RBI single by Blake Sharpe to tie the game at four apiece.
Sharpe went 3-for-5 for the Trojans while six OSU players had two hits each.
The Beavers led off the seventh and ninth innings with a walk. Both runners scored as the Beavers added three more runs to complete the scoring.
The Trojans will host UC Irvine in a nonconference game on Tuesday (April 27) at 7 p.m. before traveling to UCLA for a Pac-10 Conference series beginning on Friday (April 30) at 6 p.m. All four games will be broadcast live, along with Gametracker live stats, on usctrojans.com.
