Kennedy Leads Trojans To 8-4 Pac-10 Win Over Oregon State|

LOS ANGELES - Baron Frost's three-run homer capped a four-run sixth inning as the USC Trojans defeated the Oregon State Beavers, 8-4, in Pac-10 Conference action at Dedeaux Field. Freshman right-hander Ian Kennedy allowed only one unearned run on four hits in six innings with eight strikeouts to pick up the victory for the Trojans.
USC improves to 20-19 overall on the season and 6-4 in Pac-10 play. The Trojans are tied with Washington for second place in the conference, a game and a half behind first-place Stanford.
Kennedy is now 6-2 on the season with a 2.26 ERA, striking out 93 batters in 67 2/3 innings and opponents batting only .227 against him.
Oregon State (24-12, 4-6) scored a run in the first on a bases-loaded walk to Shea McFeely. Kennedy struck out first baseman Andy Jenkins to end the first.
USC answered on an RBI groundout by Joey Metropoulos, scoring shortstop Blake Sharpe from third. OSU had the bases loaded again in the second with two outs, but Kennedy induced a ground ball from catcher Paul Richie and retired Jacoby Ellsbury on the force out at home.
The Trojans took the lead in the fifth with runners at first and third and one out. Daniel Perales hit a comebacker to Postlewait with the OSU pitcher retiring Jon Brewster at second, but Beaver shortstop Tony Calderon's throw went wide at first to score Billy Hart for a 2-1 USC lead.
Sophomore catcher Jeff Clement hit an RBI single in the sixth, followed by Frost's second home run of the season for a 6-1 lead. The Beavers scored three runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Richie and a two-run single by right fielder Aaron Mathews.
Michael Moon added his fifth home run of the season for the Trojans with a two-run homer to right center in the seventh.
Jake Postlewait (8-2) absorbed only his second loss of the season, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits in five innings of work.
USC's Clayton Wentworth threw two scoreless innings of relief, closing out the game by striking out the side.
