SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - After having a 10-2 lead in the fifth inning, Utah climbed back into the game, tying things up in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, before the Trojans pounded out five more runs in the top of the 10th inning to take the extra-inning 15-10 victory and the Pac-12 series over the Utes.

The game was full of season records for the Trojans, as they tallied a record 15 runs on 22 hits. Individually, freshman Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) went an impressive three-for-six to drive in a career-high five RBIs, including two go-ahead runs in the top of the 10th. He also extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Freshman righty Kyle Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS), eventually got the win, as he retired the Utes in the 10th. However it was an up-and-down outing for the freshman. Davis entered in the bottom of the sixth inning, where the Utes had already pulled within one with seven runs in the inning, to strikeout the final two batters and end the inning. He then put up zeros in the seventh and eighth innings to preserve the Trojans' 10-9 lead. However, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and a runner on first, Davis walked the next batter to put the game-tying run on second. That allowed a bloop single from Braden Anderson to score the game-tying run in the next at-bat. In the bottom of the 10th, despite allowing a one-out hit, Davis shored things up to preserve the victory. He finished with four strikeouts, one walk and one run on three hits through 4.2 innings of work.

The Trojans jumped on the Utes early, tallying two runs in the second, six in the third and on in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Seven of those 10 hits came during two-out rallies. Robinson and Bobby Stahel (Needles, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) both drove in runs in the second inning. Robinson added two more RBIs in the third, while Kevin Swick (La Canada, Calif./Loyola HS) and Adam Landecker (Calabasas, Calif./Calabasas HS) also added RBIs. In the fourth Garrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) drove in a run on a single, while James Roberts (Cupertino, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) drove in the Trojans' 10th run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.

Trojan starter Bob Wheatley (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park HS) went a solid two controlled innings in his first start in two weeks, facing the minimum number of batters and striking out two. Kyle Twomey (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) then entered, going three complete innings and allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking just one.

With the score 10-2 in the bottom of the sixth, problems started for the Trojans, as the Utes touched up the Trojan bullpen for seven runs, although only one was earned, on five hits. The Trojan defense made three critical errors in the inning. The Trojans were unable to plate runs through the final three frames, stranding five baserunners.

After the Utes tied things up in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings, the Trojans answered in the 10th. Blake Lacey (Clovis, Calif./Clovis HS) led off the inning with a single up the middle, and then Greg Zebrack (Northridge, Calif./UPenn) was hit by the pitch to put two runners on. After changing pitchers, Swick laid down a perfect sacrifice bunts to put the runners and second and third, one out. Stubbs was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting things up for Robinsons two-run double to put the Trojans ahead, 12-10. Stahel then delivered a double of his own, advancing to third on an errant throw by the left fielder, which also allowed the fourth run of the inning to score. A wild pitch from the Utes' pitcher plated Stahel from third for the fifth run of the inning to give the Trojans the 15-10 lead.

Next up for the Trojans is a three-game Pac-12 series at No. 5 Oregon State, starting next Friday, April 26 at 4:05 p.m. PT.
