LOS ANGELES - The No. 6 USC Trojans fell in a close 2-1 contest vs. visiting No. 13 UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday evening.

The Trojans (25-7) had some well-struck balls not fall their way, as they only tallied one run on six hits. Redshirt junior Bobby Stahel (Needles, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring the only Trojan run of the day in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch.

The Gauchos (24-7) took advantage of some Trojan miscues in the top of the sixth inning, plating two runs against Bernardo Flores (Baldwin Park, Calif./Baldwin Park HS) that proved to be the difference. After a leadoff single to Cameron Newell, Flores got two outs, but a passed ball advanced Newell to second. Peter Maris then singled up the middle to bring home the run and advanced to second on the throw home. Then pinch hitter Kyle Plantier came to the plate and singled up the middle to plate the eventual game-winning run. Flores saw his day come to an end there, as Tyler Gilbert (Felton, Calif./Santa Barbara City College) entered to get a strikeout to end the inning.

Gilbert and Marc Huberman (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton HS) finished up the day with 3.1 scoreless innings.

The Trojans stranded seven base runners in the loss.

The Trojans will regroup as they host rival No. 7 UCLA in a huge Pac-12 series starting on Friday, April 10 at 3 p.m. PT at Dedeaux Field. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
