LOS ANGELES - Junior Robert Stock (Westlake Village/Agoura HS) went five innings and struck out 10 batters in his first collegiate start Sunday as the USC Trojans beat the No. 3 Arizona State Sun Devils, 8-2, to salvage the Pac-10 Conference series at Dedeaux Field. Stock allowed two runs on four hits with two walks while senior Daniel Cooper (Costa Mesa/Rice) picked up his first save with four scoreless innings.

USC improved to 11-12 on the season and 1-4 in Pac-10 play while Arizona State fell to 19-4 overall, 5-1 in Pac-10 play.

Freshman first baseman Ricky Oropesa (Rancho Cucamonga/Etiwanda HS) went 3-for-3, including his fourth home run of the season. Senior center fielder Anthony Vasquez was 2-for-3 for the Trojans with a home run and three RBI.

Arizona State center fielder Jason Kipnis went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, stolen base and one RBI. He finished the series with a 7-for-10 performance.

Kipnis hit an opposite-field homer off Stock in the first, but the Trojans responded with a run in the bottom half on Vasquez's RBI groundout to first. Oropesa made it a 2-1 lead with a solo shot to center in the second.

Back-to-back doubles by Kipnis and Zach Wilson tied the game in the third, but Stock struck out Jordan Swagerty and got Carlos Ramirez to line out to left. ASU had runners at third base three times, but Stock was able to get out of each jam unscathed.

Mike O'Neill and Green started the USC third with back-to-back doubles for the go-ahead run. Vasquez's RBI single brought home Green for the 4-2 Trojan advantage. USC added three more runs in the sixth and Vasquez finished the scoring with his third home run in the seventh, a solo shot to right.

USC travels to Cal Poly for a nonconference game on Tuesday (March 31) at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
