March 16, 2011
LOS ANGELES - Ben Mount allowed one run in five innings Wednesday as the USC Trojans completed a two-game series sweep over the Louisville Cardinals with the 9-4 win at Dedeaux Field. Mount scattered five hits with two walks and one strikeouts as the Trojans won their season-high third straight game.
Dace Kime took the loss for Louisville (11-5) after giving up five runs in two innings as the starter. Kime walked four batters. Zak Wasserman and Stewart Ijames each homered for the Cardinals.
Kevin Roundtree led off the USC first with a double to right, moving to third on a groundout by shortstop James Roberts. Oropesa walked to put runners at the corners before Joe De Pinto singled to center to score Roundtree. Kime then threw back-to-back walks to Alex Sherrod and Brandon Garcia to force in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly by Jake Hernandez for the 3-0 lead after the first. Wasserman hit the solo homer to right center off Mount in the top of the second and J.J. Ethel and Alex Crittenden followed with back-to-back singles before Mount settled down to keep the Cardinals scoreless for three straight innings after that.
The Trojans broke the game open with three more runs in the third. Oropesa scored on a single by Sherrod. De Pinto then attempted to steal third as Ethel's throw from the plate went into left field for another run. Sherrod would later score after Chittenden's throwing error paved the way for a 6-1 Trojans' lead.
