LOS ANGELES – The Trojans dropped a heartbreaker in 10 innings at Loyola Marymount on Tuesday evening as a walk-off home run from Billy Wilson put the Lions on top, 4-3.

The Trojans (10-6) had plenty of opportunities to put away the game, including having the go-ahead run at third base with nobody out in the top of the ninth inning, but they were unable to push across a run. Overall the Trojans stranded five runners on the day.

The Lions (9-8) plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning off Trojan reliever Austin Manning (Oakdale, Calif./Oakdale HS). Center fielder Bill Wilson, the first batter of the inning hit a towering fly ball down the right field line that looked to be hooking well foul, but it stayed in play, hitting the foul pole for a game-winning home run.

The Trojans struck first right away in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a Lion balk to put runners at second and third with one out. Lars Nootbaar (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo HS) delivered a sacrifice fly to put the Trojans up 1-0.

The Lions wasted no time tying up the game, as they scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI groundout.

The Lions plated the then-go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, it looked like starter CJ Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) was going to get out of the jam, but a bloop single to shallow right from Wilson put the Lions on top 2-1.

In the seventh inning the Trojans tied the game back up after Adalberto Carrillo (Santa Ana, Calif./Tustin HS) led off the inning with a double and Brandon Perez (Newport Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) advanced Carrillo to third with one out. After a strikeout, pinch hitter Brady Shockey (Irvine, Calif./JSerra HS) came through with a big two-out single to right to plate Carrillo to tie the game.

The Trojans took advantage of a big throwing error by the third base man in the eighth inning, as Dempster reached second on the error, allowing Matthew Acosta (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala HS) delivered a productive fly out to advance Dempster to third. Frankie Rios (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) came through with a sac fly to put the Trojans up 3-2.

However, the Lions tied things back up in the bottom of the eighth as Niko Decolati came through with a two-out single to plate the game-tying run.

The Trojan followed with that big opportunity in the ninth inning as Carrillo reached third base to lead off the inning on a fielding error by the left fielder, Lions reliever Pavia struck out the side to strand the go-ahead run.

Then in the 10th Wilson delivered that solo home run to right field off the foul pole to walk off.

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. PT as they host Washington State at Dedeaux Field.
