Trojans Sweep Roadrunners With 6-0 Win|

LOS ANGELES - Freshman lefty Stephen Tarpley held CSU Bakersfield scoreless and struck out 10 in eight sparkling innings of work to lead USC to 6-0 victory this afternoon at Dedeaux Field completing the weekend sweep of the Roadrunners. The Trojans move to 12-3 on the season with a perfect 10-0 record at home.
Tarpley was sharp from the start as he struck out Jordie Hein, Kevin Younger and DC Legg in the first inning.
USC was clicking on offense as well as they tagged CSUB starter Taylor Aikenhead (3-1) for three runs in the first frame. Senior Matt Foat singled down the right field line to score Garrett Stubbs and put the Trojans on the board. Senior Kevin Roundtree added a productive out as he grounded out to second scoring Adam Landecker from third and Jake Hernandedez followed with a single to bring Foat across the plate for the 3-0 lead.
Tarpley would allow only six hits while striking out seven more and showed impressive control with zero walks over the next seven frames en route to the win.
USC kept the runs coming in the bottom of the second as Landecker singled to left to score Stubbs and make the lead 4-0. Foat continued his dominance at the plate with an RBI double to deep center to bring Landecker all the way home from first stretching the lead to 5-0.
Foat struck again in the fourth picking up his third RBI of the day as he singled up the middle to plate Stubbs and round out USC's scoring at 6-0.
Freshman Nigel Nootbaar closed out the win for the Trojans pitching a scoreless ninth inning for Troy.
Foat and Landecker each picked up their eighth multi-hit games of the season while improving their averages to an impressive .429 and .379 respectively. Sophomore James Roberts also added two hits for the Trojans on the day.
USC returns to action Tuesday March 13 at 6:30 p.m. as they face UCLA in a non-conference game at Dodger Stadium in the Dodgertown Classic.
