    No. 9 Trojans Suffer Midweek Loss at UC Irvine, 6-2

    IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 9 USC Trojans found themselves in an early hole that they were unable to overcome, falling 6-2 at UC Irvine on Tuesday evening for just their second loss of the season.

    The Anteaters (5-9) touched up starter Brooks Kriske (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning to put the Trojans (15-2) in a 4-0 hole that they were unable to come out of.

    The Trojans fought back, loading the bases in the top of the second inning, but they were unable to plate a run. The Anteaters added another run in the bottom of the second vs. freshman reliever Brad Wegman (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS).

    Down 5-0, the Trojans got on the board in the top of the third inning, as Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) singled with two outs to drive in a run. The Trojans added another run in the sixth inning, but stranded two more runners.

    The Anteaters added another run in the sixth inning to push their lead to four, and the Trojans were unable to come back. Overall they left 11 men on base in what proved to be a big difference in the game.

    Both the Trojans and the Anteaters had eight hits on the day, with Garrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) and Jeremy Martinez (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) led the way with two hits apiece.

    The Trojans will be back in action as they open Pac-12 play on Friday, March13 at 6 p.m. PT.
