    LOS ANGELES - Ricky Oropesa (Rancho Cucamonga/Etiwanda HS) went 2-for-3, including a home run and two RBI Saturday, as the USC Trojans won the first game of a doubleheader with the 6-2 victory against the New Mexico Lobos. Sophomore Ben Mount (Coto de Caza/Tesoro HS) earned his first collegiate victory with 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

    Oropesa hammered a two-run homer in the first off the Dedeaux Field scoreboard. New Mexico scored its first run in the third, but USC came back with two in the bottom half of the third on Alex Sherrod's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Cade Kreuter. Chris Mezger and Chad Smith combined to allow only three hits in the final 3 1/3 innings for the Trojans.

    Notes: Matt Hart left the game with a viral illness, halting his season-opening hitting streak at nine games after going 0-for-1.
