LOS ANGELES - USC baseball came through with another close victory, this time 4-3 over visiting Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field to take the series.

The Trojans (11-0) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, as Bobby Stahel (Needles, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) led off the game with a single. Garrrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) then added the first of two hits on the day to put runners on the corners. Then with one down, Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) delivered a sac fly to bring home Stahel and put the Trojans up 1-0.

That 1-0 lead would hold up until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Trojans mounted a two-out rally to score three runs. With two down, Robinson was hit by the pitch and Dante Flores (Norwalk, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) then singled to put runners on the corners. Blake Lacey (Clovis, Calif./Clovis HS) singled to bring home the first run of the inning. Then David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./College of the Canyons) drew the walk to load the bases. The Rams (1-6) went to the pen, bringing in reliever Ben Greenberg to face last night's hero, Reggie Southall (Inglewood, Calif./Serra HS). Southall singled to left center to plate two runs and give the Trojans a 4-0 lead.

Starter Kyle Twomey (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) went six solid innings before getting into trouble in the top of the seventh. After allowing a leadoff walk and a one-out single, reliever Bernardo Flores (Baldwin Park, Calif./Baldwin Park HS) entered. He allowed two hits that brought home two runs and put the score at 4-2.

The Rams made things interesting in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Jeff Paschke (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS), adding one run and having runners on the corners with one out, but Ian Edmiston bunted the squeeze attempt back to Paschke, who fed it to Stubbs and they got the potential game-tying run out at the plate for the second out of the inning. Kyle Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS) entered to record the final out of the top of the eighth and finished up with a zero in the ninth for his fifth save of the year.

The Trojans will go for the sweep of the Rams on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT at Dedeaux Field.
