    USC Sweeps Season Series With Loyola Marymount After 7-1 Win

    LOS ANGELES - J.J. Owen's two-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth Tuesday as the USC Trojans went on to defeat the Loyola Marymount Lions, 7-1, at Dedeaux Field in nonconference action. The Trojans (10-7) sweep the two-game season series against the Lions.

    Sophomore left-hander Anthony Vasquez (1-3) picked up his first win as a Trojan, allowing just one run on five hits in seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Ernie Cho took the loss for Loyola Marymount (4-11-1) after giving up the two-run single to Owen.

    Owen, Stock and Estrella had two RBI each for the Trojans. Stock hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot to right in the sixth.

    Darren Gemoll opened the Trojan fifth with a double down the left field line. Nick Buss, who went 2-for-3 on the night, walked and Matt Cusick was walked intentionally to load the bases for Owen. Hector Rabago and Kevin Couture came out of the USC bullpen and threw a scoreless inning each to close out the victory.

    USC makes its first-ever appearance this weekend at Georgia with a three-game series beginning on Friday (March 2) at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
