    RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Senior second baseman Joe De Pinto went 3-for-3 with a triple while freshman Kyle Richter (Mission Viejo/Santa Margarita HS) earned his first collegiate win Tuesday as the USC Trojans defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders, 6-3. Richter threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

    UC Riverside (1-4) scored a run in the first when Eddie Young scored from third on Omar Cotto Lozada's throwing error after Ryan Goetz singled to center. USC (3-1) answered with three in the top of the second after loading the bases. Adam Landecker singled to score the tying run and UCR starter Dustin Emmons uncorked a wild pitch to score the second run. Freshman shortstop James Roberts hit an RBI groundout to cap the scoring as the Trojans held the lead for the remainder of the game.

    The Highlanders brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the eighth before Brad Douthit struck out Young to end the inning. Chad Smith threw a perfect ninth to earn his first save on the year for the Trojans.

    USC heads to No. 22 Rice for a three-game series, Friday-Sunday (February 25-27). Friday's game at Rice will start at 4:30 p.m. Central time with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday and 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
