    LOS ANGELES - The No. 3 USC baseball team hit three home runs and senior righthander Seth Etherton pitched eight solid innings in a 10-3 victory over No. 4 Arizona on Friday night at Dedeaux Field in the Pacific-10 Conference Southern Division opener for both teams.

    The Trojans improved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats lost their first game of the year and fell to 16-1, 0-1. Etherton improved to 4-0 and allowed four hits, four walks and one earned run while striking out nine in his eight innings of work. He lowered his ERA to 1.20 for the season.

    Junior RHP Darrell Hussman (2-1) took the loss for Arizona. The Trojans broke open a pitching duel in the bottom of the seventh. With a 2-1 lead, USC exploded for six runs. Junior RF Brad Ticehurst hit a solo home run to start the inning, and sophomore C Eric Munson hit a three-run shot later in the inning.

    The Trojans and the Wildcats play the second of their three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Dedeaux Field.
