LOS ANGELES - Junior third baseman Michael Moon went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI Sunday and the No. 9 USC Trojans completed the series sweep against the No. 23 South Alabama Jaguars, 9-5, in non-conference action at Dedeaux Field. Freshman catcher Jeff Clement and senior center fielder Travis McAndrews also had three hits on the afternoon for the Trojans, winners of four straight.

Clement finished the series, going 7-for-13 (.538) with four home runs and eight RBI.

USC (5-2) scored three runs in the first. Moon scored on a balk called against South Alabama starter Bert Heath. Senior shortstop Anthony Lunetta doubled to right, scoring Clement, and McAndrews singled to center to plate Lunetta.

South Alabama (0-4) loaded the bases in the third. Jansen Rayborn hit a ground ball to third, reaching first when Moon threw the ball to retire Josh Touchstone at second and score Cole Craig. USC second baseman Jon Brewster threw the ball away on the double play attempt, scoring Ryan Mulhern. USC starter Fraser Dizard then got designated hitter Jason Gross to ground out, ending the Jaguars' threat.

In the Trojans' fifth, Clement, first baseman Joey Metropoulos and McAndrews registered consecutive RBI singles for a 6-2 lead. David Gordon hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the eighth while Moon hit his first with a two-run homer to right to put the game away.

Jon Williams (1-0) picked up the win for USC with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief while Heath (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season (4 1/3 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO).

This is only the second time ever that South Alabama has started the season with an 0-4 record. The previous time, ironically, was in 1990 when the team started the season with a similar trip to the West Coast.

Trojan pitchers allowed only two walks today and have allowed only 13 walks in 62 innings this season.

The Trojans will host Pepperdine in a non-conference game on Tuesday (Feb. 18) at 5 p.m. at Dedeaux Field. The game will be broadcast live, along with Gametracker play-by-play, on usctrojans.com.
