He earned 2004 All-America and all-conference honors after going 7-1 in his sophomore season with a state-best 0.58 ERA (six earned runs)...he made 14 starts and allowed 65 hits in 93 innings with 24 walks and 92 strikeouts...named Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year.

He earned All-CIF and all-league first team honors in his senior season at Eastlake High in Chula Vista, Calif...also earned Pitcher of the Year honors.
