2001: Self has the ability to start in any position in the outfield, but can also play in the infield as well.

2000: Part-time starter in the outfield for the Trojans...went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI on April 9 at UCLA...had an 11-game hitting streak snapped on April 2 at Arizona (four doubles and eight RBI)...had two doubles in a 2-for-5 day on March 26 vs. Washington State...went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBI on March 21 vs. Loyola Marymount..
1999: Self was one of USC’s top bench players as a 1999 sophomore, particularly as a late-inning defensive replacement...batted .206 with three RBI...played in 46 games and started eight due to injuries to Brad Ticehurst...went 2-for-3 with two RBI against Long Beach State (Feb. 20).
1998: As a 1998 redshirt freshman, Self played in two games and was 0-for-1 at the plate.
1997: Self redshirted as a freshman in 1997, though he played in one game and went 0-for-1.
HIGH SCHOOL: Self was a 1996 graduate of Hughson (Calif.) High, where he played football (free safety) and baseball (shortstop)...in baseball, he was a two-time (1995-96) All-District pick and a three-time (1994-96) All-Trans Valley League choice...was his team’s MVP in 1996 after going through the season without committing an error.
PERSONAL: His brother, Colby, is a freshman infielder for the Trojans, and his father, Randy, played baseball at UC Santa Barbara...majoring in public policy and management...lists major leaguer Matt Williams as his biggest sports hero...enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time...birthdate is March 8, 1978.
