THIS YEAR: A recruited walk-on who had a very impressive fall camp swinging the bat, Miller is now contending for a starting position, either in the outfield, at first base or as the designated hitter as a 2000 freshman ... He also could contribute as a lefthanded relief pitcher ... He throws a fastball, curveball and change-up.

MIKE GILLESPIE SAYS: Kevin had a very successful fall, particularly with the bat. He can play the outfield or first base and should help us as a lefthanded pitcher as time goes by. In the meantime, he's very much in contention to win a starting position as a result of his offense.

HIGH SCHOOL: Miller garnered two-time (1998-99) Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team first team honors at Wilson High in Long Beach, Calif., and twice (1998-99) was named to All-CIF Southern Section Division I teams (first team as a senior and second team as a junior) ... As a 1998 junior, he also earned a spot on the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass team and was the Moore League's Pitcher of the Year ... He tossed a one-hitter in a CIF playoff game against rival Millikan High ... He helped Wilson to three league titles in his four years.

PERSONAL: Kevin enjoys snowboarding and the beach ... His favorite baseball player is Pete Rose ... His birthdate is Sept. 12, 1980.
