He played for the Okotok Dawgs of the Western Major Baseball League...he made 13 appearances and had a 1-0 record with a 4.86 ERA and one save...in 16 2/3 innings, he allowed 16 hits and nine earned runs with 11 walks and 16 strikeouts...opponents hit .246 against him.
2008
As a freshman, he made six appearances and had an 8.10 ERA...in 6 2/3 innings, he allowed 11 hits and six earned runs with six walks, four strikeouts and a .367 opponents' batting average...threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings on March 28 at No. 1 Arizona State, allowing a hit with two walks and two strikeouts...made his collegiate debut on March 25 with one-third of an inning against Loyola Marymount, recording a strikeout...in the summer, he played for the Pittsfield Dukes of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, making four appearances with a 2.57 ERA...in seven innings, he allowed five hits and two earned runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.

He was a three-year letterwinner at Fairview High in Boulder, Colo., under coach Rick Harig...he earned all-state and All-Centennial League first team honors as a senior after going 7-2 with a 1.50 ERA...in 58 innings as a senior, he walked 13 and struck out 60...during the state playoffs, he threw seven shutout innings against Highlands Ranch and struck out eight while allowing only four hits...earned all-league second team honors as a junior...graduated as an AP scholar with distinction and was a National Merit Finalist.
