    THIS YEAR: A solid hitter and a 2000 senior, Gemoll is in line to start for the second straight season for the Trojans ... After starting at five different positions last year, his first at USC after transferring from UC Santa Barbara, he should settle back in at third base.

    1999: Gemoll was valuable at a number of positions as a 1999 junior who transferred after two years at UC Santa Barbara ... He started at all four infield positions as well as left field ... He started most often at third base (30 games) but played first base in the postseason (starting there 16 times overall) ... He batted .300 with four home runs and 26 RBI ... At the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, he batted .308 (4-for-13) with a team-high five RBI ... In his best performances, he went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI against Long Beach State (Feb. 20), 3-for-4 with a home run against Washington State (March 28), 3-for-3 with four runs scored against Stanford (April 18) and 3-for-4 with three RBI against Pepperdine (May 30) ...
