    After spending his first year as a reliever, Couture jumped into the starting rotation and went 6-2 with a 4.27 ERA, making 14 starts in 18 appearances...on May 6 against Cal Poly, he tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win...recorded seven innings and allowed three runs in a no-decision on April 8 against No. 16 Cal State Fullerton...threw eight innings on April 2 at No. 17 San Diego and gave up just one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts to get the victory in the 3-2 decision...allowed five runs in a loss to No. 2 Arizona on March 21...threw seven innings and allowed just one run on March 8 at Winthrop, giving up just four hits...on Feb. 26 at San Diego State, the hometown native made his collegiate debut and sparkled with six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with three walks and six strikeouts...made two appearances during the Florida International series (Feb. 22-24), allowing one run and one hit in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts...for the summer, he went 2-1 with a 0.90 ERA in 15 appearances for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League...in 30 innings, he allowed 16 hits with seven walks and 26 strikeouts.

High under former Trojan Sam Ceci (who played for Troy's 1970, 1971 and 1972 national championship squads)...went 8-5 in his senior year, earning All-CIF honors...his squad won the 2006 CIF San Diego Section Division IV title after he struck out 10 batters in the 4-2 win over top-seeded Santa Fe Christian...earned All-CIF and All-Western League first team honors in his junior season after going 9-2 with a 2.61 ERA...in 77 2/3 innings, he allowed 63 hits, walked 26 and struck out 98...he also batted .328 with four home runs and 28 RBI...played in the 2005 North/South All Stars game...member of the 2005 AABC national champions with the Encinitas Reds...also earned all-tournament honors at the Connie Mack World Series...had a 3.0 grade-point-average.
