2002: Campos, a junior college transfer, will battle for a spot on the pitching staff as a junior in 2002.
MIKE GILLESPIE SAYS: "Cory has improved dramatically in our fall program. He is a finesse left-hander who throws strikes and mixes his speeds well. He should be able to pitch effectively in certain situations."
JUNIOR COLLEGE: He earned All-South Coast Conference second team honors in his 2000 sophomore season at Los Angeles (Calif.) City College...threw an 11-inning shutout during the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: At Wilson High in Long Beach, Calif, he was named the 3-A Division City Player of the Year in his 1998 junior season...two-time Northern Conference Most Valuable Player in his junior and senior seasons.
PERSONAL: Majoring in psychology...enjoys playing basketball in his spare time...lists Greg Maddux as his biggest sports hero...chose USC to play against the top athletes and to earn a degree with a lot of meaning...has a one-year-old son, Isaiah...birthdate is Jan. 13, 1981.
