2003: Bonovich should get the nod as the Trojans' starting catcher with his defense and improved bat.
MIKE GILLESPIE SAYS: "Matt gives us every belief that we are really good on defense behind the plate. As a senior, he has developed great confidence and his offense has improved dramatically. He could figure to be one of the reasons why we should be good this season."
2002: Bonovich played in 27 games as a 2002 junior, making 12 starts and batting .279 with a home run and 19 RBI...threw out six of 10 runners (60 %)...went 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBI on Feb. 23 at UCLA.
2001: Bonovich played in only seven games before being hampered by a stress fracture in his back...granted a redshirt season due to his injury...went hitless in six at-bats.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: He earned 2000 All-Bay Valley Conference and all-state honors at Sacramento (Calif.) College...played there in 1999 and 2000 season...batted .335 with 2 HR and 35 RBI in his 2000 sophomore season...also played on the NoCal JC all-state all-star team.
HIGH SCHOOL: He earned 1998 all-league and all-city honors at McClatchy High in Sacramento, Calif...was a member of the honor roll four years and the Presidential Honor Roll.
PERSONAL: Majoring in psychology...enjoys surfing in his spare time...birthdate is June 15, 1980.
