    Trojans Pummel UC Santa Barbara, 23-5

    SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The USC offense put up 23 runs on 36 hits - including six home runs, two from catcher Jason Brown - to down UC Santa Barbara 23-5 Tuesday on the UCSB campus.

    Eight Trojans players record three or more hits in the win, that upped USC's record to 37-18 while UCSB fell to 23-24. Morgan Esberg led the hit parade, going 6-for-7 with a double, a home run (his 13th of the season), four runs scored and two RBI. Other top hitters were: Wes Rachels (3-for-6, double); Marc Mirizzi (4-for-8, home run); Brown (3-for-5); Eric Munson (3-for-4); Robb Gorr (3-for-7); Brian Ponchak (4-for-5, home run) and Jeff DiPippo (3-for-6, double).

    USC starter Scott Henderson was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, pitching five innings for his eighth win of the season. He allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Four other Trojans pitched as inning apiece of mop-up work with Raul Lepe and Brian Viera tossing hitless innings.
