    Stanford Outslugs USC, 15-9

    LOS ANGELES - Junior righthander Kyle Peterson (6-1) pitched eight innings and struck out 11 batters to lead No. 4 Stanford to a 15-9 victory over No. 7 USC Friday night at Dedeaux Field.

    USC drops to 29-11 overall and 11-8 in the Pac-10 Southern Division, while Stanford goes to 24-8 and 11-2 in league play.

    Peterson, who allowed two singles to start off the game, then retired the next nine Trojans and went on to allow four earned runs on eight hits and two walks.

    Senior left-hander Randy Flores (7-4), whose 40 career victories ties him with Bruce Gardner as USC's all-time winningest pitcher, took the loss for the Trojans.

    The Cardinal were led by leftfielder Chris Clark, who was 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs. Stanford also got home runs from Josh Hochgesang and Jay Pecci.

    Reserve outfielder Jeremy Freitas homered for the Trojans and drove in five runs on the night.
