Trojans Blast Aztecs 20-3
SAN DIEGO - The USC baseball team had five players with three or more hits and the Trojans pitching staff held host San Diego State to seven hits as the Trojans crushed the Aztecs 20-3 Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
USC catcher Eric Munson led the hit parade, going 4-for-7 with four RBI, two runs scored with a home run and a double. Jason Brown also contributed with a huge offensive day, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, three runs scored with a home run, a double and a stolen base.
The San Diego State pitching staff was victimized by seven fielding errors. The Aztecs committed one error in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth. Aztecs starter Chad Wanders took the loss. He pitched two innings and allowed two runs (unearned) on three hits.
Meanwhile USC starter Mike Penney claimed his first win of the season, going five innings. He allowed two runs (unearned) on four hits and struck out one. Trojans relievers Jason Saenz, Craig Jones, Don DiDomizio and Paul Sanchez each pitched an inning of relief.
Morgan Ensberg (3-for-6), Marc Mirizzi (3-for-6) and Robb Gorr (3-for-3) all contributed to the win that upped USC's record to 29-10 on the season.
The Aztecs fall to 23-10-1 on the season.
