    Brown's Double in Eighth Inning Sends No. 9 Trojans on to Victory, 8-7

    LOS ANGELES - With the score tied 7-7 in the bottom of the eighth, No. 9-ranked USC pushed across the winning run on a double by Jason Brown and a fielding error by rightfielder Eric Byrnes to defeat No. 2 UCLA 8-7 Monday night at Dedeaux Field.

    USC is now 24-10 overall and 8-7 in the Pac-10 Southern Division while UCLA drops to 25-6-1 and 5-4.

    In the eighth inning, shortstop Mark Mirizzi led off with a single off righthander Dan Keller (2-3). Greg Walbridge attempted a sacrifice but Mirizzi was thrown out at second. Jason Brown doubled to right field and Byrnes' misplay allowed Walbridge to score.

    USC took a 7-4 lead into the eighth inning but the Bruins rallied to tie the score. The inning was highlighted by a 2-run single by Troy Glaus.

    Junior Jack Krawczyk picked up the win (1-1) for the Trojans, pitching the final inning and a third.
